A Spectacular Gorge Walk on the Costa Blanca

Looking for something a little different to do during your holiday in Moraira? We have a wonderful suggestion. Around an hour’s drive from Moraira, tucked away in the mountains of the Costa Blanca, lies the small Spanish village of Relleu. Here you’ll discover the Pasarela de Relleu, an extraordinary walking route featuring wooden walkways attached to the steep walls of a dramatic gorge. And the highlight? Glass viewing platforms where you can look straight down into the canyon below!
We’ve experienced this walk ourselves and particularly enjoyed the combination of beautiful scenery, a little adventure and a completely different side of the Costa Blanca.

The Journey to Relleu Is Part of the Experience

From Moraira, you drive south towards Villajoyosa before heading inland. As you leave the coast behind, the scenery changes completely. Busy coastal towns give way to mountains, winding roads and quiet Spanish villages. Depending on your route, you may also pass the Amadorio reservoir, surrounded by beautiful hills. It’s a lovely opportunity to stop for a photograph and enjoy the peaceful countryside.
By the time you reach Relleu, you’ll feel a world away from the beaches and holiday resorts of the Costa Blanca.

What Is the Pasarela de Relleu?

The Pasarela de Relleu is a spectacular series of wooden walkways built along the rocky walls of a deep gorge, close to a historic 17th-century dam. The original reservoir was created to store water for agriculture in the surrounding area. Today, the gorge has become a popular attraction for visitors who enjoy walking, nature and a little excitement. The wooden platforms extend along the cliff face, reaching heights of approximately 60 metres above the canyon.
With solid rock on one side and an impressive drop on the other, it’s certainly not your everyday countryside walk!

The Short Relleu Gorge Walk

If you’d mainly like to experience the famous wooden walkways, the shorter route is an excellent choice. From the designated parking area, follow a natural walking trail for approximately 1.5 kilometres towards the entrance. The path passes through a rugged mountain landscape, with lovely views of the surrounding countryside and the old dam. You’ll eventually reach a small wooden reception hut where your ticket is checked. And that’s where the most exciting part begins.

Walking Along the Wooden Cliffside Platforms

The wooden walkways are securely attached to the rock face, offering spectacular views into the gorge. As you follow the route, you’ll see impressive rock formations and the winding canyon far below. The glass viewing platforms are particularly memorable. Looking down through the glass, you’ll discover just how high above the gorge you really are. Even if you’re usually comfortable with heights, it’s quite an experience!
Our tip: take your time and enjoy the scenery. The views along the route are just as special as the glass platforms themselves.

The wooden walkway section measures approximately 850 metres for the return journey. Including the approach and return to the parking area, the complete short walk is around 3.6 kilometres.

Prefer a Longer Walk? Try the 10 km Route

If you’d like to explore more of the countryside, there’s also a longer circular walk of approximately 10 kilometres. This route starts in the village of Relleu and follows historic paths through the landscape surrounding the old reservoir. Along the way, you’ll discover old irrigation channels, traditional water basins, a former lime kiln and sections of an ancient mule track. It’s a lovely option for visitors who enjoy walking and would like to discover more of rural Spain. Allow approximately three hours for the longer route, plus extra time for photographs and breaks.

How Much Does the Pasarela de Relleu Cost?

The current standard entrance fee is € 3,50 per person. This covers access to the wooden walkways and viewing platforms. The walking routes leading to the entrance are separate from the ticketed section. Tickets can be purchased online or at the entrance hut, subject to availability. We recommend booking in advance, particularly during weekends and holiday periods.
You can check prices, availability and reserve your visit through the official Pasarela de Relleu website.

An Important Tip When Booking

The time on your reservation is the time you should arrive at the wooden entrance hut, not the time you leave the car park. For the shorter route, allow approximately 25 minutes to walk from the parking area to the entrance. If you’re starting from Relleu village, allow around 75 minutes to reach the entrance on foot. Make sure you include this walking time when choosing your ticket slot.

Opening Hours and Practical Information

The official website currently lists opening hours from 09.00 am to 6.30 pm, with the last admission at 06.00 pm. However, opening hours and access arrangements may change, particularly during adverse weather. Always check the latest information before travelling.

Is the Relleu Walk Suitable for Everyone?

The shorter walking route is relatively easy, but you’ll be walking on natural paths with loose stones and some uneven ground. The cliffside walkways are well constructed, although the height can be quite intimidating. If you suffer from severe vertigo, this might not be your favourite holiday activity! A few important things to remember:

  • Wear sturdy walking shoes or trainers with a good grip. Flip-flops and unsuitable sandals aren’t permitted
  • A safety helmet is compulsory on the walkways and is provided by the organisers
  • Children must remain under the supervision of a responsible adult
  • The attraction isn’t recommended for children under five
  • Walking poles aren’t allowed on the wooden platforms
  • The route may be closed during unsuitable weather conditions

Bring drinking water, especially during the warmer months.

Our Tip | Visit Relleu in Spring or Autumn

The countryside around Relleu is beautiful throughout the year, but we particularly recommend visiting in spring or autumn. Temperatures are usually more comfortable for walking, and you can enjoy the scenery without the intense summer heat. Why not make a morning or afternoon of it? After your walk, take some time to explore the village of Relleu and enjoy a coffee or lunch before returning to Moraira.
It’s a lovely way to discover a quieter, more traditional side of the Costa Blanca.
