A Beautiful Coastal Walk in Moraira

A lovely walk along the Mediterranean, beautiful views across Moraira’s marina and one of the prettiest bays on the Costa Blanca waiting at the end. Sounds like a wonderful way to start your holiday morning, doesn’t it? The Paseo Marítimo to El Portet is one of our favourite short coastal walks in Moraira. The route follows the rocky coastline from the town towards the beautiful bay of El Portet.
And along the way, you’ll discover several viewpoints where you’ll definitely want to stop and admire the scenery.

Where Does the Walk to El Portet Start?

The walk begins near Avenida del Portet, just above Moraira’s marina. From here, you can enjoy lovely views of the harbour, with its sailing boats and yachts. In the distance, you’ll also see the impressive Peñón de Ifach rising above Calpe. It’s a beautiful way to begin the walk. Follow the coastal footpath, which is largely paved but includes several flights of steps and changes in elevation. Comfortable walking shoes are definitely recommended.

Walking Through the Park Above Moraira Marina

The first part of the route takes you through a small park overlooking the harbour. It’s a popular place for local residents to walk, exercise and enjoy the fresh air. You’ll even find some outdoor fitness equipment along the way. The path then climbs uphill via several sets of steps. It’s a little bit of exercise, but the reward is worth it. At the top, you’re greeted by wonderful views across the Mediterranean Sea.
On clear days, you can see far along the coastline, with the blue water stretching out towards the horizon.

Beautiful Mediterranean Views Along the Way

What makes this coastal walk so enjoyable is the constantly changing scenery. On one side, you’ll pass attractive villas and Mediterranean gardens. On the other, the rocky coastline drops towards the turquoise sea. Depending on the sunlight, the water can change from deep blue to almost transparent green.
In some places, you may even spot dark patches of Posidonia oceanica seagrass beneath the water. These underwater meadows are an important part of the Mediterranean marine ecosystem. And then, as you continue along the path, the beautiful bay of El Portet slowly comes into view. No matter how many times we’ve walked this route, that first view of the bay is always special!

El Portet Beach | The Perfect Place to Finish

After approximately 30 minutes, you’ll arrive at Playa del Portet, one of our favourite beaches in Moraira. This sheltered, horseshoe-shaped bay is known for its clear water, small sandy beach and beautiful green hillsides. On calm days, it’s a lovely place for swimming, snorkelling, kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding. But there’s no need to be particularly active.
You can simply find a bench along the little promenade, sit back and enjoy the view. Or settle down at one of the waterfront cafés for a coffee, a leisurely lunch or a refreshing drink. In our opinion, it’s the perfect reward after a lovely coastal walk.

How Long Does the Paseo Marítimo to El Portet Take?

Allow approximately 30 minutes each way for the walk between Moraira and El Portet. If you’d like to stop for photographs or take your time enjoying the scenery, allow around 45 minutes. For the return journey, we suggest setting aside approximately one to one and a half hours in total, excluding any time you spend relaxing at El Portet. The route isn’t particularly long or technically difficult, but some sections include steps and slopes.
For this reason, the complete coastal route isn’t suitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs or visitors with significant mobility difficulties.

Our Practical Tips

• Best time of year | spring and autumn are particularly pleasant, although you can enjoy the walk throughout the year
• During summer | go early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid the hottest part of the day
• Footwear | comfortable trainers or walking shoes with a good grip are ideal
• Water | take a bottle of water, especially during warmer weather
• Camera | don’t forget your phone or camera. The views are beautiful!
