When can you see the main fireworks displays in Moraira?
Fireworks and pyrotechnics are an important part of Spanish fiestas, and Moraira certainly knows how to put on a show. The main displays usually take place around Moraira Castle, Playa de l’Ampolla and the harbour. The biggest fireworks events are traditionally connected to the Moros y Cristianos celebrations in June and the Patron Saint festivities in July.On this page, we keep track of when and where you can see fireworks in Moraira.

Moros y Cristianos | June
One of the best opportunities to see fireworks in Moraira is at the end of the Moros y Cristianos celebrations. In 2026, the grand gala parade took place on Sunday 14 June. The parade started at 19:00 and was followed by a large fireworks display at the castle by Pirotecnia Valenciana. The fireworks are really the finale to an entire week of parades, music, elaborate costumes and traditional re-enactments between the Moorish and Christian groups.
Our tip: do not visit only for the fireworks. The gala parade beforehand is one of Moraira’s most impressive annual events.

Noche de San Juan | 23 June
Noche de San Juan is celebrated every year on the night of 23 to 24 June. Playa de l’Ampolla becomes one of the main meeting places in Moraira. In 2026, festivities started at 19:00 with food and drinks, followed by live music and a mobile disco from midnight. An older version of this page stated that there was always a large official fireworks display at midnight. That was not the case in the official 2026 program, so we no longer present a major fireworks show as a fixed annual part of San Juan.
Our tip: San Juan is mainly worth experiencing for the atmosphere on the beach. If your main reason for visiting is a large fireworks display, Moros y Cristianos or the festivities on 15 and 16 July are better dates to choose.

Patron Saint festivities | July
Moraira’s most important pyrotechnic events take place during the annual Fiestas Patronales. The celebrations honour Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados and Virgen del Carmen. In 2026, the full programme ran from 3 to 19 July.
15 July | Virgen de los Desamparados
On 15 July 2026, a mascletà was held at 14:00. In the evening, the solemn procession in honour of Virgen de los Desamparados started at 21:00. After the procession, a pyrotechnic water show took place on the coast. This is one of the main fireworks evenings of the year in Moraira.

16 July | Virgen del Carmen
The following day is dedicated to Virgen del Carmen, traditionally associated with sailors and fishermen. In 2026, the afternoon programme included a kilometre-long traca and a digital mascletà. At 20:30, the procession took place both on land and at sea. It was followed by a Gran Mascletà Nocturna, making this another important evening for pyrotechnics in Moraira. The combination of the sea, fishing boats, procession and pyrotechnics makes this one of the most atmospheric fiesta evenings of the summer.

What is a mascletà?
A mascletà is quite different from the type of fireworks display many international visitors are used to. The emphasis is primarily on rhythm, sound and increasingly powerful explosions, rather than colourful fireworks high in the sky. And a proper mascletà is not something you only watch. You feel it too. During Moraira’s festivities, daytime mascletàs are often held around the Paseo del Senillar behind Playa de l’Ampolla.
Where is the best place to watch the fireworks?
For the main evening displays, the area around Moraira Castle and Playa de l’Ampolla is usually the best place to watch. The beach and promenade offer good views over the coastline and the fireworks above the sea. However, the centre becomes very busy during the largest fiesta evenings.
Our tip: arrive early, have dinner in Moraira first and then find a spot near the beach or promenade.
Fireworks with children
The main fireworks displays are also popular with families. However, Spanish fireworks and especially mascletàs can be extremely loud. Ear defenders can therefore be useful for younger children or anyone sensitive to loud noises. For a daytime mascletà, we would also stay slightly further away from the firing area when visiting with small children.
Can you set off your own fireworks in Spain?
The use and sale of fireworks in Spain are regulated. Spanish legislation divides pyrotechnic products into different categories and applies rules concerning matters such as age, sale, handling and use. Local authorities can also impose additional restrictions, particularly around organised fiestas or specific locations. For visitors, the simplest advice is to check the current local rules before using fireworks yourself.

You can combine the pyrotechnics with the Patron Saint festivities, processions, music and the special atmosphere around the harbour and town centre. Moros y Cristianos in June is another excellent choice, particularly because the fireworks follow one of the most impressive parades of the year.
