Cova del Arcs | Cueva de los Arcos
The best-known cave near Moraira is Cova dels Arcs, beside Cala del Moraig in Benitatxell. Its large natural arches were created by the erosion and dissolution of the limestone rock. The cave opens directly onto the Mediterranean and is one of the most recognisable natural landmarks along this stretch of coast. When the sea is calm, you can view the formations from Cala del Moraig.

Riu del Moraig | Not an ordinary tourist cave
Close to Cova dels Arcs lies Riu del Moraig, also known as Riu Blanc. This is not simply a sea cave. It is the underwater outlet of an extensive underground river connected to the Benissa aquifer. Fresh water flows through a network of completely submerged passages before reaching the Mediterranean. The underwater system extends for several kilometres and is explored only by highly experienced and specially equipped cave divers. Cova de les Cendres | Moraira
Cova de les Cendres lies on Cap d'Or above El Portet and is especially important because of its archaeological history. Archaeologists have discovered ceramics, animal bones and other remains inside the cave. Older guides sometimes described Cova de les Cendres as a detour from the walk to the Torre del Cap d'Or. That information is no longer correct. The cave is closed to visitors and access is officially described as difficult. If you visit Cap d'Or, follow the normal walking route to the Torre del Cap d'Or and respect the closure of the archaeological site.

Bonus | Cova del Llop Marí near Jávea
If you would actually like to enter a sea cave by kayak, Cova del Llop Marí near Jávea is a more suitable option. The cave lies along the spectacular southern coastline of Xàbia and can be reached from the sea. Guided kayak trips from the Granadella area regularly include the cave and other hidden parts of this coastline. For visitors who do not know the local waters, we would choose a guided trip rather than exploring the cliffs independently. Visiting Cala del Moraig
To see Cova dels Arcs, head to Cala del Moraig in Benitatxell. Cars are no longer permitted to drive all the way down to the cove. Parking is at the top of the descent and visitors continue towards the beach from there. During the busiest summer periods, additional access or transport arrangements may apply, so check the latest local information before visiting.

If you want to see just one cave during your holiday, we would choose Cova dels Arcs. It is spectacular, close to Moraira and easy to combine with Cala del Moraig. For a proper kayaking experience, Cova del Llop Marí near Jávea is more interesting. We would not attempt to visit Cova de les Cendres. The archaeological cave is officially closed to visitors.
