Beaches in Moraira

From sandy beaches to small Mediterranean coves

For a relatively small coastal town, Moraira has an excellent choice of beaches and coves. If you want a sandy beach with plenty of facilities, L’Ampolla is the obvious choice. For a beautiful sheltered bay, El Portet is our favourite. And if you prefer snorkelling, head towards L’Andragó or Cap Blanc. Most beaches are only a short distance from Moraira town centre, so it is easy to try several during your holiday.

Which beach in Moraira is right for you?

You are looking for… Our choice
Sandy beach near the centre L’Ampolla
Most beautiful setting El Portet
Beach with young children L’Ampolla or El Portet
Snorkelling L’Andragó
Sand and rocks Les Platgetes
Quiet rocky cove Cap Blanc
Small natural cove Portitxolet

Playa de l’Ampolla

L’Ampolla is Moraira’s main sandy beach. It is located directly next to the town centre, below Moraira Castle. The beach has fine sand and the water becomes deeper gradually, making it a popular choice for families with children. During the summer season there are facilities including toilets, lifeguards, wooden walkways and sunbed and parasol rental. The beach also has facilities for visitors with reduced mobility. Immediately behind the beach is the protected Marjal del Senillar wetland. In the opposite direction, Moraira’s shops, restaurants and terraces are only a few minutes away on foot.
Our tip: if you want to combine a morning at the beach with lunch, shopping or drinks in the centre of Moraira, L’Ampolla is the easiest choice.

Playa del Portet

El Portet is, in our opinion, the most beautiful beach in Moraira. This small sandy beach lies in a sheltered bay beneath Cap d’Or. On calm days the water is often clear and relatively still, making El Portet popular with families, swimmers, snorkellers and paddleboarders. A small promenade runs alongside the beach with several restaurants and terraces. During summer there are lifeguards, toilets and other beach facilities. El Portet was once again awarded a Blue Flag in 2026.
The main disadvantage? Parking. Especially in July and August, the limited parking spaces around El Portet fill quickly.
Our tip: arrive early in the morning during the high season. Parking is easier and the bay is often at its most peaceful.
👉🏻 El Portet is also one of our favourite places for Stand Up Paddle in Moraira.
📍Locatie | Lengte: 300 meter | Breedte: 10 meter

Les Platgetes

Les Platgetes is located just outside Moraira town centre on the coastal road towards Calpe. It actually consists of two small beaches, with a combination of sand and rocky areas. This makes it suitable for swimming while also providing some interesting spots for snorkelling around the rocks.
A promenade with viewpoints and planted areas runs alongside the coast. During the summer there are facilities such as toilets, lifeguards, foot showers and access walkways. Les Platgetes also holds a Blue Flag in 2026.
Our tip: a good alternative if you want some sand but find L’Ampolla too busy.

Cala L’Andragó

L’Andragó is very different from Moraira’s sandy beaches. Instead of a long stretch of sand, you will find a rocky cove with stones and natural platforms beside the water. The clear water makes this one of our favourite places in Moraira for snorkelling. Another advantage is the choice of restaurants and bars around the bay, so it is easy to combine a few hours by the sea with lunch, dinner or drinks.
Our tip: bring water shoes. They make getting in and out of the water much more comfortable.
📍Locatie | Lengte: 100 meter | Breedte: 75 meter

Cala Cap Blanc

If you prefer a quieter and more natural section of coastline, Cap Blanc is worth considering. This is not a traditional beach. The coastline is mainly rocky, so access to the sea is less straightforward than at L’Ampolla or El Portet. However, the clear water and rocky seabed make Cap Blanc attractive for snorkelling and confident swimmers. For families with young children, we would choose El Portet or L’Ampolla instead.
Our tip: do not come here expecting sand, sunbeds and beach facilities. Cap Blanc is about swimming, snorkelling and enjoying the natural coastline.
📍Locatie

Cala del Portitxolet

Portitxolet is a small and relatively unknown cove between Moraira’s better-known beaches. The coastline here is rocky and there are very few facilities. In return, the water is often beautifully clear and the setting feels much more natural than the larger beaches. This is mainly a place for a swim or some snorkelling rather than a full beach day.
Our tip: bring water shoes and do not expect restaurants, toilets or beach services.

What about Cala Llebeig?

Cala Llebeig is slightly different from Moraira’s other beaches. This remote rocky and pebble cove lies on the boundary between Teulada-Moraira and Benitachell and cannot be reached by car. You can only reach the cove on foot or from the sea, and there are no normal beach facilities. For that reason, it is less suitable for a casual beach day and more interesting for walkers and nature lovers.

Which beaches in Moraira have a Blue Flag?

In 2026, two beaches in the municipality of Teulada-Moraira have a Blue Flag:

El Portet and Les Platgetes.

The Blue Flag program assesses beaches on criteria including bathing-water quality, environmental management, safety, accessibility and facilities.

Beaches in Moraira with children

With younger children, we would mainly choose between L’Ampolla and El Portet. L’Ampolla offers more space and facilities and is located directly beside the town centre. El Portet is smaller and more picturesque, while its sheltered position often provides pleasant swimming conditions on calm days. For rocky coves such as L’Andragó, Cap Blanc and Portitxolet, water shoes are a good idea.

Parking near the beaches in Moraira

Parking is available close to several beaches, although during July and August it is particularly important to arrive early if you are planning to visit El Portet. L’Ampolla has more parking possibilities within walking distance because of its location beside the town centre. There are also parking options near Les Platgetes and along other parts of the coastal road. Outside the main summer season, parking is generally much easier.

Our favourite beaches in Moraira

If we had to choose three:

  • El Portet for its beautiful setting and a peaceful morning beside the Mediterranean.
  • L’Ampolla for families and the convenience of having the beach and town centre together.
  • L’Andragó when we want to snorkel and then have something to eat or drink beside the sea.

But Moraira’s coastline is compact enough that you do not really have to choose just one. During your holiday, try several beaches and decide which one becomes your own favourite.
