English is its main working language, although staff also speak several other languages. Clínica La Ermita is an international medical centre near the Montgó between Jávea and Jesús Pobre. Public or private healthcare in Spain?

The difference between public and private healthcare is important when you need medical treatment during your holiday.

Public healthcare and the EHIC
A valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) gives eligible visitors access to medically necessary treatment within the Spanish public healthcare system during a temporary stay. In Moraira, Centro de Salud Moraira is the local public healthcare centre. The EHIC is not travel insurance and does not cover every possible cost.

Private healthcare
Private clinics and hospitals such as HCB, IMED, International Clinic Moraira and Clínica Britannia are not automatically covered by the EHIC. Before treatment, check where possible:

• whether your health or travel insurance covers private healthcare
• whether the clinic works directly with your insurer
• whether you will need to pay first and claim the costs back later
• which invoices, reports and receipts you need to keep

How does the EHIC work in Spain?

The European Health Insurance Card gives eligible visitors access to medically necessary treatment provided by the Spanish public healthcare system during a temporary stay. Important points to remember:

• the EHIC is for public healthcare
• private doctors, clinics and hospitals are not automatically covered
• planned treatment is not covered by the normal EHIC arrangements
• repatriation to your home country is not covered
• routine dental treatment is generally not provided through the Spanish public healthcare system

For this reason, travel insurance can still be very useful even if you have an EHIC
