Enjoy the Mediterranean Outdoor Lifestyle

Imagine this: the sun is slowly setting over the hills of Moraira, the barbecue is warming up and there’s a lovely glass of Spanish wine waiting on the table. The children are enjoying one last swim, while the delicious smell of grilled prawns, fresh herbs and sizzling steaks fills the terrace.

For us, that’s what a holiday on the Costa Blanca is all about!

Life in Moraira is largely lived outdoors. And although there are plenty of wonderful restaurants to discover, sometimes there’s nothing better than enjoying a relaxed barbecue evening at your own holiday villa. No restaurant reservations, no rushing around and absolutely no need to watch the clock. Just good food, great company and a beautiful Mediterranean evening. But where can you buy the best ingredients for a BBQ in Moraira? And which holiday villas offer something a little special, such as an XL Green Egg or a fully equipped outdoor kitchen? Let us share a few of our local favourites!

Barbecuing in Spain  Outdoor Living at Its Best

One of the loveliest things about a barbecue during your holiday is that it’s about so much more than the food. It often starts in the afternoon. A refreshing dip in the swimming pool, a few drinks on the terrace and a leisurely discussion about what’s going on the grill tonight. Perhaps a beautiful steak, some fresh Mediterranean fish or a selection of Spanish tapas prepared on the barbecue. And while one person takes charge of the cooking, everyone else can relax and enjoy the warm evening air. That’s the beauty of staying in a holiday villa in Moraira. You have your own space, your own swimming pool and the freedom to enjoy the evening exactly as you wish.

And if your villa has a beautiful outdoor kitchen, even better!

What Should You Put on the BBQ in Moraira?

Of course, you can’t go wrong with a juicy steak, some marinated chicken or a few good burgers. But when you’re on holiday in Spain, why not try something a little more Mediterranean? Here are a few of our favourite ideas.

Fresh king prawns | Marinate some fresh gambas in olive oil, garlic, lemon juice and chopped parsley. A few minutes on the grill and you’ve got a delicious Mediterranean starter.

Sea bream or sea bass | A whole dorada or lubina is wonderful on the barbecue. Add lemon, fresh herbs and a little olive oil for a simple but delicious meal.

Spanish sausages | Try some fresh chorizo sausages or other local specialities from the butcher. Perfect for sharing while the rest of your meal is cooking.

Mediterranean vegetables | Peppers, courgettes, aubergines and asparagus are delicious when grilled. Add a little olive oil and sea salt, and you’re ready to go.

A beautiful piece of beef | And for the serious BBQ enthusiasts? A good ribeye or entrecôte remains hard to beat, especially when cooked over charcoal.

Serve everything with fresh bread, alioli, a colourful salad and perhaps a bottle of Spanish wine. Sometimes the simplest meals make the best holiday memories.

Where to Buy Good BBQ Meat and Fresh Fish in Moraira

A great barbecue starts with great ingredients. Fortunately, there are several excellent places in and around Moraira where you can find everything you need. These are three addresses we particularly recommend.

The English Butcher | Quality Meat for Your BBQ

If you love a good steak or traditional British sausages, The English Butcher is well worth a visit. Located along the Moraira–Teulada road in the Paichi area, this specialist butcher is popular with both British residents and holidaymakers. You’ll find a selection of fresh meat, sausages and other butcher’s specialities, including cuts that are ideal for the barbecue. It’s also a great place to ask for advice if you’re planning something special. Whether you’re preparing a family barbecue or want a particularly good steak, a visit to The English Butcher is a lovely way to start.
📍Carretera Moraira-Teulada 170 | Moraira

Pepe la Sal in Benissa | A Great Selection for BBQ Lovers

Another excellent option is Pepe la Sal in Benissa, on the road between Moraira and Calpe. This well-known local supermarket has an extensive fresh meat counter, with a selection of steaks, marinated meat, skewers and other products suitable for barbecuing. One of the things we like about Pepe la Sal is that you can buy everything else for your BBQ evening at the same time. Fresh bread, salads, vegetables, olives, cheese and a nice bottle of wine. Everything you need for a relaxed evening at your villa. It’s a particularly convenient stop if you’re staying in San Jaime or along the Benissa Costa.

Mercadona | Fresh Fish and Mediterranean Seafood

Fancy something different from meat? Then we’d recommend visiting Mercadona, particularly the branch in nearby Benitachell. Its fresh fish counter is a good place to look for sea bream, sea bass, prawns and other seafood, depending on the daily selection.
Our tip? Buy a whole sea bream, add some lemon, olive oil and fresh herbs, and cook it gently on the barbecue. Or try fresh king prawns with garlic and parsley. Delicious, and wonderfully simple to prepare!

Barbecue Safety During Your Holiday in Spain

A barbecue evening is a wonderful part of a Mediterranean holiday, but safety is particularly important during Spain’s hot, dry summers. Always use only the barbecue provided at your holiday villa and follow the property’s instructions. In the Valencian Community, restrictions on the use of fire can apply during periods of increased wildfire risk, particularly in or near woodland and natural areas. The presence of a barbecue at a villa does not automatically mean it may be used under all conditions. Always follow the current local regulations and check with your host if you’re unsure. Never leave a lit barbecue unattended, keep children safely away from the cooking area and make sure charcoal and ashes are completely extinguished before disposal. That way, everyone can enjoy a safe and relaxing evening.

Sometimes the Best Holiday Evenings Are Spent at Your Villa

Moraira has beautiful beaches, wonderful restaurants and plenty of lovely places to explore. But sometimes the most memorable evenings are the ones you spend at home. A beautifully set table, something delicious sizzling on the barbecue, good company and a warm Mediterranean evening. No rushing. No restaurant booking. Just enjoying life.
