Initially the story broke in Almería where vets noted an increase in kidney related problems with the common factor being the change in food. After receiving numerous complaints, the supermarket chain instructed 190 stores in Albacete, Alicante, Murcia and north Almería to withdraw Compy wet dog and cat food from the shelves.
Veterinarian reports consulted by CBNews point at Mercadona's own brand of pate and meat packs in cartons as the cause of the problems to the dogs.
Since the story broke at the weekend, the news has spread via social networking sites informing other pet owners of the potential health risks.
Costa Blanca News contacted both Bynsa and Escuris, the two pet food manufacturing companies that make Mercadona's Compy dog and cat food.
Although certain media had blamed Bynsa for the problem, CBNews was told
directly by a company representative that they only manufacture Compy
dry dog food, which is not affected and complies with quality and safety
guidelines and is still on sale. 08 March 2012 Prison for rapist of British teenA 22-year-old man has been sent to prison for 12 years after he was found guilty at the provincial court in Alicante of a serious sex attack against a 14-year-old British girl in Benissa in September 2010. The court heard how the girl was lured to an abandoned property by a friend, also British, on the pretext that he wanted to talk to her.
On entering the property she was grabbed by the accused who forced her to the floor and removed her clothing before raping her. The assault was stopped when some other people who were walking nearby heard the girl's screams and went to her aid. The boy who lured her to the property is already serving a custodial sentence for his part in the attack. The court heard that the accused had told others that he wanted to have sex with the girl and he coerced the other boy into helping him with his plan. In statements to the police the victim said that although she knew her attacker she had never spoken to him because he was much older than she was and he was not part of her circle of friends.
The court sentenced the accused to 12 years in prison and ordered him to pay 6,000 euros compensation to his victim plus interest and costs. 07 March 2012 Prison for expat benefit cheat caught in ValenciaA BRITISH woman living in Valencia who had defrauded over £42,500 from the UK benefit system has been brought to justice.

Just a month away from the big stage in London, Martínez told the press she had put her studies on the back burner during the summer to concentrate on preparing for the competition. Every contestant has to complete eight tasks, four women's styles and four men's styles, combining traditional and modern cuts. "It is a good way to get known on an international level, whether I end up with a prize or not" said the young Alicante woman.
